Back to School: Essential Tips for Flawless Skin

Back to School - Girl with Books and Backpack

Time to go back to school! That means classes, homework, sports, and clubs, not to mention hanging out with friends you haven’t seen in months. With everything on your plate, it can be easy to overlook your skincare until it is too late. Here are some great tips to keep your skin smooth and flawless for the school year!

Get Enough Sleep

You may have a full schedule, but your body needs time to rest in order to recharge. Your skin needs that rest too – all those stories about “beauty sleep” are backed by scientific facts. While you sleep, your skin’s blood flow increases to repair damage from the daily elements.

What’s more, a good night of sleep will reduce your stress. Minimizing stress stops breakouts and lets you start your day with a clear head and clear skin.

Use Sunscreen

Speaking of the elements, a primary cause of skin problems is something we are constantly encountering – sunshine! Before that morning cross-country run or afternoon baseball game, put on sunscreen to reduce UV exposure.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends at least SPF 30 to avoid skin damage. So, remember to apply that sunscreen before you go outside. Your skin will thank you!

Keep Your Skin Clean

Woman Washing Her Face

It’s easy to roll out of bed and head straight for class, but be sure to give your face a quick, gentle wash before you head out. Your skin needs to be cleansed of all the toxins it cleared out overnight. You don’t want those oils and impurities to stay on your skin all day causing breakouts. A quick wash in the morning will ensure that your skin is in prime condition to face another day.

The same goes for your nighttime routine – be sure to wash your face before bed. You definitely want to clean off all the dirt and chemicals that have built up during the day.

Last but not least, be sure to apply moisturizer after every wash. This provides a protective layer to keep the dirt and grime at bay. What’s more, it will keep your skin from growing dry, tight, and flaky, all of which can lead to severe breakouts. Keep your skin clean and hydrated for a guaranteed glowing complexion.

Hydrate and Then Hydrate Some More

Not only does your skin need hydration, your whole body needs it! When you are up to your ears in class schedules, homework, and after school activities, it’s easy to forget to stop for some water.

To help keep yourself hydrated, keep a water bottle on you at all times. Keeping yourself hydrated is a proven way to ensure a clear and radiant complexion.

Simple Skincare

Healthy Foods for Sin

Skincare incorporates more than washing, cleaning, and applying creams to your face. Routines should also include small daily tasks that help reduce dirt build-up. Here are some simple tips for keeping your skin clean and clear:

  • Minimize the number of times you touch your face
  • Wipe off your phone
  • Change your pillowcase frequently
  • Lower your caffeine intake
  • Try to eat healthily, avoid sugars and fats
