5 Habits to Prevent and Treat Acne for Flawless Skin

Orevent and Treat Acne

You wake up in the morning ready for a big day only to find a pimple has taken over your face. Whether your day includes a client meeting, presentation, or even prom – having the confidence to be your best is difficult when you feel like all anyone will see is your acne. Clear skin can be linked to many factors and it may be attainable with the right routine. Here are five habits to help prevent and treat acne for flawless skin:

The Cause and Curse of Acne

How acne is formed

For most people acne begins during puberty. A lot of us think that it will go away with age but that’s not always the case. Acne is caused by the increased production of a hormone called androgen. Androgen is what stimulates the production of sebum, an oily, waxy substance from the sebaceous gland. Sebum then mixes with hair follicles and dead skin cells, causing a buildup of pressure which can burst open and cause skin inflammation.

Acne Prevention and Treatment

If acne is taking over your skin or you seem to have the everlasting pimple, there are many treatments and skincare products that can help change the look of your skin. No matter what you do, though, it’s the routine things you participate in daily that will add up to making a difference

1. Keep your skin moisturized

The need to keep your skin hydrated can never be overstated. Moisturizers protect your sensitive skin, improve skin tone, and treat dry skin. Moisturizers also form a protective barrier on the outer layer of skin, which helps fight invasion of environmental contaminants. So please, moisturize, moisturize, and when you’re done moisturizing, moisturize some more!

2. Wash your face multiple times a day

Wash Face with Mild Cleanser

As we go about our day, we subject our face to many situations that leave it with an excess of oil or dirt. From intense exercise to the use of makeup and hair products, there are a lot of different things we do that are counterproductive to achieving healthy skin. We aren’t saying to stop these activities, but we are saying you need to wash your face consistently throughout the day.

Whether you’re lifting or going for a run, sweat can cause clogged pores that lead to breakouts. Furthermore, when using makeup or hair products we can leave an excess of oil or grease on our faces that can lead to some serious acne. That’s why it is important to look for products that are oil free. Any product, when left on the face for a long period of time, contributes to breakouts, crow’s feet, and aging.

To prevent any negative effect on your face, it’s highly suggested that you wash your face at least twice a day. It’s important that you utilize a mild cleanser with warm water and NEVER scrub your skin. Scrubbing your skin can cause further irritation to your already sensitive skin

3. A clean face starts with a clean diet

Apples

We know you might love to go onto Instagram to see those crazy milkshakes stacked with cotton candy, chocolates, and lollipops. You drool over those pizzas with the huge cheese pulls. Sadly, these succulent creations are far from good for our skin. Your skin is the largest organ you have and just like the rest of your organs, it needs a clean diet to function at its peak.

To help avoid a greasy face, you’re going to have to avoid greasy, sugary foods and dairy products. Sugary foods can do more damage to your face than to your weight. Sugar leads to the overproduction of cortisol, which leads to the overproduction of sebum. It has been proven that drinking water and including more fruits and vegetables in your diet helps decrease acne.

You may hate the thought of having an apple over an ice cream cone, but you’ll be happy when your face is clear and healthy.

4. Keep calm and don’t touch your face

Woman Touching her Face

You know when you’re sitting in a car and for whatever reason, you feel the need to touch the window, and it leaves a fingerprint mark on the glass. In that fingerprint is the bacteria of everything you’ve touched. Now imagine, instead of touching a window, you decide to touch your face, spreading bacteria. This bacterium is terrible for our skin. As well as the possibility of getting sick, it also causes some terrible breakouts and further irritation to your face.

This goes for popping a pimple, too. Many people think just popping one pimple is no big deal, but it absolutely is. Popping a pimple doesn’t heal anything, but instead leads to blemishes, more acne, and permanent scaring. The next time you go to touch your face or pop that one pimple – just don’t do it.

5. Use toners

Facial toners are very important as they protect your skin in many ways. They reduce the size of pores, making them less susceptible to contaminants. They also balance the pH of the skin and fight skin dryness.
